Hacía tiempo que no escribíamos sobre la selección de los cultivos dónde van a cazar nuestros amigos de la colonia del silo. En estos momentos los cernícalos están cazando en campos de trigo donde seguramente sus principales presas (saltamontes) están más accesibles. Sin embargo, la actividad agrícola modifica esta predilección: hemos podido comprobar cómo el segado del trigo o la recolección de patatas actúan como focos de atracción puntuales para los cernícalos, ¿a alguien se le ocurre por qué podría ser?
Por otro lado, los campos de girasol y maíz aparecen de forma ocasional como zonas control, es decir, zonas por donde los cernícalos han pasado a gran velocidad sin pararse a intentar cazar. Os dejamos algunas fotografías de esta última semana de campo.

The last post about foraging habitat selection was written long time ago, so let's update! In these days, our friends from the colony of the Silo are foraging in wheat crops where their preys (large grasshoppers) are surely more available. However, human activity modifies this selection: we have reported how the wheat or potato harvesting acts as attractors to the kestrels, does anyone know the reason why it is happens?
Moreover, sunflower and corn crops are common as control points, that is areas that have been overflown by the kestrels with no stop to forage. Here you have some photographs of the last week of field work.
